  • What were your feelings regarding NGE when it was first announced?

sceptical after cu1, a bit annoyed i wouldn't get my unlock toon but otherwise willing to give the new system a try

  • What were your feelings when you immeadiately entered the game?

not too sure footed cos i can't use mouse-run etc anymore, i wasn't too keen on the lack of a target lock either

  • What were your feelings after you played for a hour?

having a surprising amount of fun, even though my index finger was sore. i was a little disheartened to see so many people running around in jedi padawan robes, hopefully not a taste of things to come

  • What class did you choose to play?

               officer

  • What do you like the most about NGE?

i could take on red-con npcs and win :-D

  • What do you dislike about NGE?

as mentioned before, the targetting & influx of jedi's. other than that the obvious 'stuck on ramp issue' and i had a quest bug out on me 'talk to e-lk5 (??) about station gamma'

Shocked and more than a litttle angry that there had been no prior corresponance from the community team into a system that had obviously been in development for months. In addition, that it came the day after an expansion in an obvious marketing ploy to get money from loyal customers before an understandable backlash of cancelled accounts due to the deception. Also the departure from the In concept/in development/in testing format that we had been promised would be rigidly adhered to.
  • What were your feelings when you immeadiately entered the game?
The first time I entered the game and heard the siren, I thought - gee a KOTOR rip off. Then C3PO started talking to me.. and I got very excited by the good quality voiceover. Once I had got my bearings and adjusted controls, I loved it right up until I got stuck on the Falcon's Ramp
  • What were your feelings after you played for a hour?
Once I had finally made the station, I loved the tutorial. Would have liked more general NPC voiceovers. The missions were simple but varied. One thing I was frankly appalled about, was the continuing discrimination towards ithorians and wookiees. At no point making a new character is it explained the clothing options for these species are limited in the main game. Also, the rewards given as part of the quests AGAIN do NOT use new models. Therefore it is not too much to ask that alternative rewards are available for new Wookiee and Ithor players. If the point of this new system is to attract, and more importantly keep new players, then its bad form on the Dev Team's part when these new players cant use their rewards - not much of an incentive for them to keeo going, especially when the racial discrimination policy permeates through the entire game. Its not like there are any species bonuses any more to compensate - now Wookiees and Ithorians only get the cons, with no pros.
  • What class did you choose to play?
I chose a Female Wookiee Jedi on my first time round, as I wanted to check out the skill path for the profession, and see how my live character would fit into everything. Second time I managed to get in I chose a Bothan spy, ans that really appealed to me (would also like to try a medic). However I got stuck on the ramp again, so logged so others could try and get in. I have not been able to get anywhere near in for the last 20 hours since then.
  • What do you like the most about NGE?
I like the quick pace and voiceovers.
  • What do you dislike about NGE?
The way SOE went about it without player knowledge.
The way guns can easily overpower melee due to their rapid fire and quicker animations.
Players limited to 1 character per server.
The skill paths seem very limited in the variety and amount of the specials. No information has been given on how characters get anything to individualise thir skills. At the moment it seems every member of a profession will end up a carbon copy of each other. With no variation. Other systems that use defined profession have some way to speicalise, whether that be a branching tree or 'talents.' The action may be fast paced with the new system, but players will soon get bored fast if everyone are clones of each other.

As a Combat Player
  • What were your feelings regarding NGE when it was first announced?
  • "Wow, sounds like some mayor changes but better wait the 2 days until it is on TC before starting to praise or tocomplain"
  • What were your feelings when you immeadiately entered the game?
  • "Wow, this is Star Wars"
  • What were your feelings after you played for a hour?
  • "Wow, this is Star Wars, but in no way compareable with what we have on live now"
  • What class did you choose to play?
  • Spy (after my Bounty Hunter got Stuck in the MF Turret ^^)
  • What do you like the most about NGE?
  • Very Star Warsy
  • Its like a completely new game
  • Much missions to run in the Starter Starbase.
  • What do you dislike about NGE?
  • Its like a completely new game
  • New player start as "Rebel", i didnt even find a imperial recruiter or any type of imperial propaganda. That should not happen. New players (and the majority) should play imperial or neutral, rebells should be the minority.
  • The character creating screen looks horrible with the Movie based Pictures in them.
  • The Character "Roadmap" looks horrible with the strange, big picture in the middle

Thanks folks!

As a crafter
  • What were your feelings regarding NGE when it was first announced?
  • "They better dont screw over the crafters"
  • What were your feelings when you immeadiately entered the game?
  • After i passed the millenium Falcon part i was impressed that there where crafting quests
  • What were your feelings after you played for a hour?
  • After the maybe 5 crafting quests in the starbase i found only gun-bunny missions and left. Now i am on tatooine and pretty much where i would be without the NGE
  • What class did you choose to play?
  • Trader(engineer)
  • What do you like the most about NGE?
  • Crafting missions that really gave XP (at least on the Starbase)
  • Crafting missions on the Starbase provided the resources needed to complete them
  • What do you dislike about NGE?
  • Only like 5 crafting missions in the tutorial, after that it is all kill based.
  • Very, Very hard to get creature resources as a trader. I killed rills with a CDEF for what feels like an hour before i could complete the 1. tatooine crafting mission.
  • Which gave only like 63 xp, which is nothing compared to the 1000 or so on the starbase
  • The Trader Uniform has combat mods on them (agility) instead of something related to Traders
  • Unable to mix and match skills as i want them.
  • Unable to drop Skills without deleting the character

Thanks folks!

[edit]
What i forgot:
1. I want my original controls back. I want to talk without pressing enter, i want to click on an enemy without shooting him.
2. I want my original HUD back.

  • What were your feelings regarding NGE when it was first announced? Shock. Then, the more I read the more positive I became.
  • What were your feelings when you immeadiately entered the game? I liked the clean look of the UI, and the moving speed.
  • What were your feelings after you played for a hour? After an hour I'm starting to get concerned over the lack of choices in the skill system.
  • What class did you choose to play? Smuggler
  • What do you like the most about NGE? The increased speed.
  • What do you dislike about NGE? The lack of choices in the template. As far as I have been able to see there isn't a single template choice left once you're picked your profession. This leaves you basically with a character that has nothing to do with what you want. The immersion in the character is basically zero, in this aspect. IMO this is a gamebreaking flaw, as countless possibilties in designing the template was one of the greatest strengths  SWG had.

  • What were your feelings regarding NGE when it was first announced?
  • Betrayal and poor marketing decision. Especially after spending so much time revamping CH, SL, and Ranger then ditching them all. Not to mention buying the ToW expansion not knowing this was coming.
  • What were your feelings when you immediately entered the game?
  • Enjoyed the voice overs of C-3P0 and Han, rather surprised being tossed into a place that seemed like it was gonna explode.
  • What were your feelings after you played for a hour?
  • Didn't get to play for an hour. Got stuck on the ramp 6 times. *Note. Finally got in after the 7th time. Played for an hour and I was even more disappointed.
  • What class did you choose to play?
  • Jedi and Commando
  • What do you like the most about NGE?
  • More Star Wars content. Talking NPC's, tutorial (if it wasn't bugged)
  • What do you dislike about NGE?
  • 1. The extremely jerky, clumsy, and twitchy movement.
  • 2. No walk feature.
  • 3. Enemies auto targeted while you had to aim. Ememy shots would follow you no matter where you went.
  • 4. Adding the jump emote to the space bar is just horrible unless you plan to change the animation and have an actual application for it like dodging, jumping over boxes, etc.
  • 5. The side mounted camera to the right. Give us centered view and the old style SWG point of view.
  • 6. Not being able to look at my character from the front.
  • 7. The lack of variety between professions
  • 8. The set generic, forced templates we all get. Everyone ends up the same.
  • 9. You can't pick your template, change it, or surrender it.
  • 10. Lack of specials. Everyone has the same specials to use, therefore the same tactics when fighting.
  • 11. Dumbed down graphics.
  • 12. Characters and items feel "empty" and have no weight to them.
  • 13. Jedi as a normal profession. Jedi were never normal or were they common in the movie. This has made the game LESS Star Warsy. Everyone will now be jedi.
  • 14. BH's cannot hunt players. This will keep the jedi population SOARING.
  • Basically the entire movement, keymap, and camera view was horrible and poorly executed. I feel this is ok for combat but has no application for role-playing/socializing. Slow the character down and make them less clumsy. PLEASE! This reminds me of a Freedom Fighters copy, only not as good.

  • What were your feelings regarding NGE when it was first announced? = Cheated.
  • What were your feelings when you immeadiately entered the game? = Why is Jedi selectable at the start after all the work I put into grinding it.
  • What were your feelings after you played for a hour? Like the fact it was faster, hate having to click click click to attack, still felt cheated.
  • What class did you choose to play? Jedi, as thats what i worked hard to get for a year.
  • What do you like the most about NGE? Only thing I like over the current system is that it seems faster gameplay.
  • What do you dislike about NGE? No individuality in skills, Clicking to attack, the fact that noobs can choose Jedi when they log in after all the time I spent grinding it. The worry that servers will still be unstable and laggy. Disgust about how the NGE was announced AFTER I had bought TOOW. The worry that SOE will change the game yet again after 6 months. Poor handeling of the NGE test servers. Poor handling in regards to a concise FAQ on launch of the NGE.

    What i like:

    - The new combat system is fast and is more interesting.

    What i dislike:

You took away all complexity of the game. This game now smells so much like a Console game for kids that it is hard to bear. I loved the complexity and the freedom in SWG. Your Iconic Professions arent iconic at all. The only difference between them are the specials. Template building was one of the most interesting things in SWG. Are you aware that DIABLO 1 had more non visual character customization options than SWG has now?. In SWG you can now after changing your look exactly choose ONE thing. The Class. I cant choose in what order i would like to have specials nor can i specialize for a specific type of weapon. Which is large step backwards in my eyes. Also it was always nice in SWG that we were able to just drop everything and start to learn something new. Its totaly unexceptible in my eyes to be stuck to one profession and only one character per server. Also i somehow get the feeling your customer age you wish for changed a lot. I think the average age of SWG players at the moment is between 19-24. These changes show me you are aiming for a new market (kids 10-15) and discarding the old one.

What were your feelings regarding NGE when it was first announced?

    Astonishment, surprise, incredulity, anger.

What were your feelings when you immeadiately entered the game?

    Indifference, passive interest, disappointment.

What were your feelings after you played for a hour?

Lack of excitement, bigger disappointment as I was hoping to like the new system, frustration of being forced out of a game I liked into a new game I didn't like. I felt like I was playing a downgraded version of the game, much rawer than the original SWG.

What class did you choose to play?

    Commando, Jedi.

What do you like the most about NGE?

The voices of the SW characters (Han Solo, C-3PO).

The interaction with the SW characters in the tutorial.

What do you dislike about NGE?

The rawness of the game, what it has turned to. I don't like point-and-click games that much, but I feel that's pretty much all what SWG has to offer now. I don't like the click-click-click-then-click-some-more approach to combat, nor do I like the limited use of specials. It's too repetitive in my opinion, and got old really fast.

What is there to this game beside combat now?

    • What were your feelings regarding NGE when it was first announced?
    • I felt lied to and very very mad. I do not pay for this type of game - I pay for the game we have.
    • Shock that SOE would do this horrible thing to paying loyal paying customers

    • Hated the movement - do not like that there is no choice to change it.

    • I was tired - was glad to log off. I do not like the movement and the jerky feel
    • What class did you choose to play?

    • What do you like the most about NGE?
    • The voice chat from npc
    • What do you dislike about NGE?
    • Not being able to change prof after respecs
    • The cookie-cutter feel to the classes
    • The recurring feeling of being lied to by devs and soe

    Hello Folks,

Since our team has been working very hard and long hours on NGE I would like to do something special for them. Can you please post CONSTRUCTIVELY what your likes and dislikes are regarding NGE.

Trolls please don't ruin this thread there are countless other threads for you to go do your dirty work in.

    • What were your feelings regarding NGE when it was first announced? SOE & Sony are money grabbers and glad that I didn't buy ToOW
    • What were your feelings when you immeadiately entered the game? I grew attached to the character and feel distgusted when I am now PHYSICALLY attached to him.
    • What were your feelings after you played for a hour? The CU has brought about the extinction to all Integrity and Intellect of the game. Everything is repetitive.... The hold'n down mouse click to kill something is no different from a macro..... except it kills faster... Do not wish to see it in pvp.
    • What class did you choose to play? Bounty Hunter
    • What do you like the most about NGE? Nothing... I felt like a mindless 2 year old being taught how to play a Sesame Street ABC game....
    • What do you dislike about NGE? Everything, mostly the character in the left hand corner, never being able to view him as I would in current game. No decay, means all duels and battles are meaningless theres no win or lose, the victor achieves nothing if the opponent doesn't lose anything. No decay also means I'm not afraid to die to an npc.... incap has been transcended into a knockdown and I will just keep going after him because i lose nothing from it.  Area Attack... hold down left click. rapidly move mouse left and right..... Need I say more? When I play current game I feel apart of game with my character, but with NGE.... the character means nothing I can't ever see his face, he can repeatedly die, I wouldn't care.... You attach me to him... but I don't feel like apart of him....   As an MMORPG this game fails because of that.   As an FPS this game fails because theres ALOT more better ones out there that play with FREE online gaming, AND I have never known a FPS to put you in left hand bottom corner.... Should be centered. Mostly the Lack of Individuality with our characters.  Characters and Items feel empty, no value placed on character anymore.

    Thanks folks!

I was positive. The game was broken to oblivion and most of my real-life friends left early becouse of it.
The common problem was "boring grind", "no star wars feel", "nothing to do".

    • What were your feelings when you immeadiately entered the game?

I felt the KOTOR feel. The Tutorial, KOTOR and KOTOR2 starts in a very similar way. I quickly got the feeling that it's a Star Wars game I am playing.

    • What were your feelings after you played for a hour?

Sadly I got cought in the Falcon bug.

    • What class did you choose to play?

    Jedi

    • What do you like the most about NGE?

Quests & Storydriven content. It's almost a shame I am Level 80 already, I am considering respecing to a low level if I am not allowed to do the "newbie" stuff at Level 80.
I also like how Jedi appears more canon than before, fitting to the Rebellion Era.

    • What do you dislike about NGE?

I am concerned about diversity. I hope that we can customize our characters beyond the base 90 levels, earning custom powers and equipment. Customization and making your own character is what I like in a roleplaying game.

    --- Cancelled 24th November 2006
Reason: The lack of multiplayer pve content and Star Wars feel.
For 3 years I have tried to find excuses to stay in game but only the expansions offered me what I subscribed for in the first place: A multiplayer Star Wars pve experience with friends around the globe. I found friends but with almost no addition of pve content they dropped out one by one. Now it's my turn.

A little background about myself first. I have been playing since launch on the same server with the same toon. I have been a wide variety of professions (though not as many as I would have liked to) and have felt the pains of nerfage, over-powered templates, and all the rest. I unlocked my Jedi about a month ago, and am about a third of the way to full template. That being said, here are my thoughts on the NGE:

What were your feelings regarding NGE when it was first announced?
Oh no, not again. After the initial shock, I thought to myself, well maybe they'll actually do something right this time... then I read the notes and found EVERYTHING I liked about this game to have been taken out. This is the first MMORPG I've ever played, as it was the only one to appeal to me for the following reasons:

    1) Star Wars Theme - This one is a given. I have loved Star Wars since I was born, basically. Some of my very first toys were Star Wars toys that my mother saved for me from 1977 (It's a shame how I tore those suckers apart, heh). I've never been into fantasy themes, like most MMORPGs tend to be, so I was elated when my brother showed me SWG. The NGE has ruined the Star Wars feel for me. Jedi are EVERYWHERE, there is no diversity in templates (as a true Star Wars universe would be, you can't tell me Greedo and Boba Fett have the same template). This leads to my next point:

    2) Player Diversity - I was not going to be stuck with the same character and the same template that 8000 other people I had. I could be a Smuggler and a Bounty Hunter. I could be a Doctor and a Creature Handler. I could truely make a character both unique and realistic to the Star Wars cannon. This helped the SWG world to actually feel much bigger than it really is. One of the major selling points for me was the vast selection of classes and abilities. Over 30 professions to choose from! Granted, they didn't all appeal to me, but over time I grew to like some that I didn't think I would. But the biggest selling point for me was the fact that I could reroll my character and add and drop skills at will. This was incredible, and was one of the reasons I had never picked up an MMORPG. I HATE being forced down one path and then being locked into it. If I'm paying a monthly fee, I should be able to do NEW things, not be stuck with the old. I will tolerate linear progression in a single-player game, but not in a MMO. Which brings me to my next point:

    3) Community - The fact that characters could be changed without having to be deleted meant that reputations could be built and a close-knit community formed. There are people on my server both feared and revered, and this would not be true if they had to change their name every time they wanted a new template. The major emphasis on player economy was also a really innovative and immersive feature. I really felt like this was a real place. With the NGE's addition of "no decay" and simplistic weaponry (damage being the only stat???), there will be no more economy. There will be no reason to go to one weaponsmith over another. The economy will collapse, and the community will break down.

    4) Combat - Having been a long-time FPS player, when I bought this game I was excited about experiencing something... more intelligent. With an RPG, I would have to think about my template, worry about equipment, consider many different statistics and weigh many pros and cons. This was extremely immersive, and just figuring out a good template was a puzzle. To me, this is what a MMORPG SHOULD be. There should have to be thought into making your character, and thought in how to fight. A fight should take some time. I loved both the Pre-Cu and Post-Cu systems, each having advantages and disadvantages, but both being about on par for what an RPG should be. I felt like I had to think about what I was doing. Attack and counter-attack. Offense and defense. Should I attack health, drain action, or outlast their mind? There was strategy (though most people didn't take the time to think about it, and just mashed buttons. These are the people who corpsed easily and/or had FOTM templates to just plain outdamage other people). The NGE, to me, is about 15 steps backwards. Combat now is just hold down the mouse button over a stationary target. I haven't even found specials to be necessary or very useful, especially since I now have to do two keystrokes to use one (effectively taking a few seconds away from actually fighting, and thus negating the effectiveness of the special). The aiming/movement system is clunky, and I feel more like a pupeteer than I feel like I'm actually fighting something (as I did in both the old systems).

I could go on and on, but these are the major issues that concerned me from the very first post about the NGE, and these are the issues that will cause me to cancel my account on November 15, after two years of loyalty (minus a few months when a firewall prevented me from playing). Nonetheless, I tried to keep a positive attitude. I had made too many friends and invested too much time for me to throw in the towel so quickly...

What were your feelings when you immeadiately entered the game?
Hatred. The new UI is hideous. All the gaudy silver borders distract from what's important, and make my eyes bleed. The simple, thin borders of the old UI were far better and didn't distract (A good UI shouldn't ever be noticed). Not to mention, the HAM bars are tiny and almost unreadable, the radar has no North indicator and is not resizeable (I'm assuming it's a bug, though). On top of that, movement was akward and clunky, almost making me dizzy at times. I have to move the mouse around much more than I used to. Honestly, even sending tells felt strange and akward with the new UI.

The starting quest with Han and C3P0 seems forced, and too one-sided. If I want to be an Imperial, why am I being held by Imperials and killing storm troopers? This seems to be a poorly thought out attempt at "immersion" and making the game more "Star Warsy". I also didn't enjoy the entry area very much, but I understand that this is an attempt to make the game more simplistic, so that new players are not overwhelmed, so I'm willing to overlook this detail as long as there is a way to immediately go to Mos Eisley (which there isn't until level 5 or 6, currently, though I could be mistaken). Actually, this whole "upgrade" reeks of a general dumbening of the game so that new players will stay around longer. This is a bad move, as this game attracts a more intellectual crowd and not everyone should be cut out to play it. That being said, I didn't find either of the old systems to be complicated and they could easily be understood with a little better instruction (which most people get from the community).

More on the UI, the skill "pies" are... childish at best. They look like something a 12-year old would make, with the shoddy photoshop cutouts of the "iconic" Star Wars characters (I thought this was supposed to be "The greatest saga ever told... yours" anyway? Why should I only get to be one of the "iconic" professions? /sigh). A multi-billion dollar operation like Sony should be able to come up with something a little classier than an analog gauge and a cutout photograph (why do we even need to see a picture of one? What happened to just reading?).

What were your feelings after you played for a hour?
After poking around for a little bit, I began to realize that even my worst fears had been mild in comparison to how badly this "game enhancement" had been executed. I had zero fun in the 2-3 hours that I was on Test Center, spending most of my time in /tells with fellow guildies expressing my disbelief in how such a bad system could have even been considered. I think I've already pretty well covered what I feel is wrong with the system, so I won't rehash what I've already said, but the general lowering of intelligence required to play the game is going to hurt the community, the players, and SOE/LA. There may be a bunch of new players, but they will be of a younger demographic, a demographic that won't be as inclined to stick around when things get boring (which they inevitably do). I am terribly disappointed in this NGE, and will no longer be a Sony customer if this goes live (and I mean ALL of Sony. Games, Walkmans, Stereos, anything with the name Sony on it), as it is quite apparent that the customer base is not important if there is a chance for the bottom line to increase. I understand that a corporation's sole purpose is to make money, but there should be pride and standards in the product as well. Think if people like Da Vinci and Picasso had settled on what would make them the most money at the time... (Not to necessarily equate SWG to a Picasso painting, but the same principles apply. The quality of the product should come before the bottom line).

What class did you choose to play?
Smuggler. I wanted to test something that didn't seem to be as tested. Not to mention, smuggler had been a class I thoroughly enjoyed already, but did not play often (because of the lack of effectiveness in combat, but that's another story). Not much to say here really. Unimpressed with the lack of diversity in specials (as in most professions, 2/3 of the specials just say "damage modifier", not that they're going to be useful anyway. Unimpressed with the linear progression. Unimpressed with the inability to become more than just a plain ole smuggler. I think what I'm trying to say here is that I was unimpressed.

What do you like the most about NGE?
That it's not on live yet. Honestly, I haven't found a single thing worth keeping in this system.

What do you dislike about NGE?
That it exists, and will be destroying the game I love so much so very soon. I think I have pretty well covered all my feelings on this topic so far. As I stated earlier, the NGE will be the cancel button for me and for a good 80% of my guild (probably 40-50 accounts total).

I hope that this post will be constructive for the team, and does not appear as a flame. I am not whining, I am merely stating my opinion in hopes that it will be considered by the powers that be. I do not want to quit, I do not want to leave my friends, I do not want to see 2 years of building a character gone for something like this. This is why I post. I post because I want this game to be what it should have been, the greatest MMORPG to ever hit the shelves...

I will be reposting this in it's own thread, way too much work to just be lost in the pages and pages of replies. Hopefully it will be noticed.

    Fare thee well, SWG...

What were your feelings regarding NGE when it was first announced?

I was a bit schocked when I heared it first, because after ToOW and all that announcements about Ranger Revamp and stuff, but after Ive read the letter from Julio I was positiv suprised.

What were your feelings when you immeadiately entered the game?

    YAY I GOT IN!!!!!!
And of course I was a bit nervous cause I really wanted to test it.

What were your feelings after you played for a hour?

Great just great!!!! The tutorial was amazing it was interesting and very funny as well, tbh the old tutorial was like.. how boring when am I finished with that?
/wisper and I must say when you are in Eisley and speak to the mayor first and ask him about the cantina I was like woohoo Im in the movie

What class did you choose to play?

I played as a jedi (Im a jedi in live) and wanted to test the new changes and skills (and the animations as well)

What do you like the most about NGE?

The fast combat, even as a low CL player you can fight against same CL creatures NPC's much faster as before and it makes more fun as just pushing that hotkey than the other hotkey, than the hotkey to heal, than the 1st hotkey again and so on. And the one click into the swoop and stuff like that is fast and easy as well thank you. I must say its just great!!!

What do you dislike about NGE?

Well I dont like..... hmm not sure well now I know what I dont like, that (as I choosed Jedi) everyone who choosed Jedi was running arround in his padawan robe, I tried mine a few times yep but mostly I had my decorative vest and my skirt on (still looks much better as the white sleeping suit) but the bad thing about it is.... that its not true to the movies and the padawan robe shouldnt be granted as student in the tutorials I would prefer that the player get the robe as initiate that would fit a bit more. (but well I must say that as a new player I would be very happy to be able to wear a padawan robe as soon as possible so maybe leave it there?) Well there is nothing anymore what I dont like about NGE.

    Thank you for listening
