Hello everyone!  I’m back!   
 

Publish 28
 
I have been out visiting many of you for the past few weeks at the SWG Community Summits.  (Special thanks to Helios for providing a comlink for me the past two Fridays.)  While I’ve been out, the development team has been hard at work on Publish 28, which can currently be found on our Test Center server.  We are really happy with how things are going and I expect that we’ll be able to release the publish to the live galaxies on Tuesday, April 25th.  
 


Community Summits
 
As I mentioned, I have been traveling the past few weeks attending some of the community summits.  It was really great to have the opportunity to meet many of you face to face.  All of the developers that attended really enjoyed getting a chance to listen to your feedback in person, answer your questions, and spend some time talking about Star Wars Galaxies.  Things went so well that we are already talking about setting up some more community events so that we can have a chance to meet even more of you, answer more of your questions, and continue to share even more information about this year’s plans for SWG.
 


Updated Publish Outline
 
While I was at the summits, we shared the latest version of our publish plan for the year.  Canceling the expansion and keeping the whole team together and focused on the live game has opened up the schedule so we’ve been able to add some additional features to the initial plan I posted a few months ago.  Many of you have seen the original plan, but not everyone has seen the latest plan for the year, so I wanted to share the latest version here:
 

Publish 29
 
•  Bug Fixing – In an effort to continually improve our core game, we will continue fixing issues that exist in the current live game.

•  New Content – We will be adding additional story-driven content for characters of Combat Level 37-41.

•  Non-combat Targeting Improvements – We are going to tweak our targeting system a bit so that it is easier to manipulate objects when decorating your house.

•  Tool Tips for Character Statistics – Ever wonder exactly what “Luck” does?  We will be adding more descriptive character statistic information to the interface.

•  High End Content – Have you reached combat level 70 – 90 and are looking for a cool new adventure?  This will be just the thing for you.  More details coming in the next month.

•  3-4 Year Veteran Rewards

•  SWG Three Year Anniversary Gift

•  Weapons Retrofit – Your choice of weapon will impact the amount of damage that you do in combat.

•  Expertise System Back-End – By the end of publish 29 we will have the technology in place for our new expertise system.  In upcoming publishes we will start adding this system to each of the professions.
 
 


Publish 30
 
•  Bug Fixing – You’re going to see this as the number one item throughout the plan.  We’re committed to making the game a fun and polished experience for everyone.

•  New Content – We will be adding the new story-driven content for characters of Combat Level 42-44.

•  Updated Adventure Areas – We will be making a pass on the Jabba’s “Themepark” to guarantee it has a fun story and is integrated into the quest journal.

•  Bounty Hunter NPC Missions – We will be adding the Bounty Hunter NPC missions to the quest journal.
•  New Collision System – This new system will improve combat line of sight as well as allow for things like true jumping and evading.

•  Jedi Profession Enhancements – This will integrate the new expertise system into the Jedi profession.

•  Bounty Hunter Profession Enhancements – This will integrate the new expertise system into the Bounty Hunter profession.

•  Galactic Civil War Base Improvements – We will be making a pass on the GCW bases out in the world to make them even more interesting locations for adventuring.

•  Jedi Specific Story Missions – Jedi will get some new Jedi specific story missions.

•  Bounty Hunter Specific Story Missions – Bounty Hunters will get some new BH specific story missions.
 
 


Publish 31
 
•  Bug Fixing – Yes, it’s still at the top of the list!

•  New Content – We will be adding additional story-driven content for characters of Combat Level 45-50.

•  Smuggler Profession Enhancements – This will integrate the new expertise system into the Smuggler profession.

•  Officer Profession Enhancements – This will integrate the new expertise system into the Officer profession.

•  Smuggler Specific Story Missions – Smugglers will get some new Smuggler specific story missions!

•  Officer Specific Story Missions – Officers will get some new Officer specific story missions.

•  Smuggling System – Smugglers will get the ability to “smuggle” in SWG!

•  PvP Ranks and Rewards – We will be revising and expanding upon our existing ranking system that will open up even more new rewards and items when a player achieves a particular rank.

•  PvP In-Game Leaderboards – This will give players a tracking mechanism to see how they rank in PvP against other players on their galaxy.

•  Updated Adventure Areas – We will be making a pass on the Imperial and Rebel “Themeparks” to guarantee they have a fun story and are integrated into the quest journal.


 
Publish 32
 
•  Bug Fixing – Still in first place is making sure SWG is in tip-top shape!

•  New Content – We will be adding additional story-driven content for characters of Combat Level 51-55.

•  Trader Profession Enhancements – This will integrate the new expertise system into the Trader profession.

•  Trader Specific Story Missions – Traders will get some new Trader specific story missions.

•  Trader Reverse Engineering – We will be adding a new reverse engineering system to provide even more reasons for players to visit traders and to use crafted items.

•  Updated Adventure Areas – We will be making a pass on Nym’s Stronghold “Themepark” to guarantee is has a fun story and is integrated into the quest journal.

•  New High End Content – We will be adding another adventure area for players that have reached combat levels 70-90.

•  Combat System Improvements – We will be working on some behind the scenes code optimization to help guarantee that combat effects are always visible when performing an attack or using a special.

•  Animation System Improvements – This is even more code work to improve the look of animations while engaged in combat.  Improving the animation system is a pretty big effort and this work is happening now.  It will be ready to be published for #32.
 
 

Publish 33
           
•  Bug Fixing – Let the bugs beware!

•  New Content – We will be adding additional story-driven content for characters of Combat Level 56-61.

•  Commando Profession Enhancements – This will integrate the new expertise system into the Commando profession.

•  Medic Profession Enhancements – This will integrate the new expertise system into the Medic profession.

•  Commando Specific Story Missions – Commandos will get some new Commando specific story missions.

•  Medic Specific Story Missions – Medics will get some new Medic specific story missions.

•  Battlefields – This will be phase one of bringing new battlefield areas to Star Wars Galaxies.

•  Space PvP Enhancements – This will allow players to take control of space zones for their faction.
 
 

Publish 34 
 
•  Bug Fixing – Still topping the charts!

•  New Content – We will be adding additional story-driven content for characters of Combat Level 62-67.

•  Entertainer Profession Enhancements – This will integrate the new expertise system into the Entertainer profession.

•  Spy Profession Enhancements – This will integrate the new expertise system into the Spy profession.

•  Entertainer Specific Story Missions – Entertainers will get some new Entertainer specific story missions.

•  Spy Specific Story Missions – Spies will get some new Spy specific story missions.

•  Battlefields Part 2 – This will be phase two of bringing new battlefield areas to Star Wars Galaxies, including the addition of heavy weapon emplacements.
 
 


What’s Next?
 
Over the next few weeks I plan on sharing more details about Publish 29.  We’ll talk about the details, the features and we’re going to keep talking to you about what’s happening in SWG.  I look forward to hearing your feedback on them.

Do you know if the commando and entertainer issues in P28 will be fixed pre-live? (commando's are bugs from P27 but the workaround is being removed in P28, entertainer are having a number of skills removed as of the last build).

Also any news on Syren's? - the end is a super cool fight and the technology used is really great (can expand to make some excellent quests later).

The former are must fixes before P28 can go live, Syren's may have to slip out a publish and mix it with the other new content.

Errr, so we have to wait even longer for 2 professions to get diversity? Not good enough...


Publish 29

So this means you're not adding the expertise in to any profession in Publish 29? We will not see profession diversity for all professions until next year at this rate!!!!

26 was great. 27 was awesome...

But what really was the big thing with pub 28 that made it take 4 months?
Are we getting anywhere?
Not to sound negative or anything, but the line above seems like the only reason to wait for publish 29.

I cannot help but feeling that the old publish plan actually sounded more like moving forward but now we are back at "Jedi publish in 2 publishes from now". Yay. Again?

Sure, it's nice to be spoiled as a Jedi, but when Jedi is the only profession in the game that have a meaning to it, there's not much of a world is there.

Besides that, I also have an annoying sig that looks like part of the post.

Excellent stuff there, especially the battlegrounds.  Cant' wait to see them in place.  Also salivating over the space pvp sector control!  Here's to getting it all live as quickly and bug free as possible!
