I like this theory, but hope I am not doomed to be a crafter.. i mastered Scout, Marksman and BH, then opened my first holo. it told me Tailor... I also dabbled (pre-Holo) in Ranger (got to 2240 before dropping down to 0010), Medic (peaked at 2114), Artisan (4104), Novice Weaponsmith but never pursued, and Brawler (peaked at 3000)... So I have only limited science and crafting, no entertainer, and plenty of combat and outdoors. I will have to give up BH completely to master Tailor - but will prob keep Master Scout and Master Marksman. I have thought about Mastering Ranger before giving it all up.. I could probably train 0232 inside os 2-3 days.... I am becoming bored with BH.. already did all the badgeable POIs except one, and completed Imp theme park, jabba, nym, and gotten mid-rank Imperial... So I may master Tailor as soon as I collect all the resources, then check another cron.. if it says another crafting profession (I can and will do master artisan but not DE, WS. AS, Arch), I will just change my character completely and stop pursuing Jedi... I did not buy this game to craft. some may have.. I did not.

This makes sense because if it was all based on professions, then the devs should be able to give u badges for the professions you have already mastered but then dropped before the update. I think that each metric as you so call it has a certain number of points and everytime you get a skill in that metric, it works like an experience bar. My belief though is that the higher the skill, the more points it places into that metric. In other words the more xp you spend in that metric, the more metric points. "Duh Conjre!!!! That's what we've all be sayin." Just want to thank you for puttin this post up cause it's an awesome theory. ATM I'm pulling apart that UIS file for my character trying to decipher the 'codes" and stuff in it.
This is so old. Every single one after the first couple players is after a mastering of a profession. The only reason the first few jedi weren't is because that is when SOE "flipped" a switch that prime time friday afternoon. When the server did a client check then they opened the jedi slots. Monika stated that he heard the announcement about the first jedi before he even got the personal jedi message. It has nothing to do with a house or a mob or a place visited. Its all down to grinding out your holos and hoping to find that last one. Why people continue to wonder about how its done is beyond me.

And to clarify... what I'm proposing in this whole thread fits nicely in with the Prof only theory:
Perhaps it IS only professions that give experience in the metrics fields, perhaps it is only professions that unlock once the metrics are filled. Yes, the prevailing theory is the 4+1 profs mastery, but personally, I'm leaning towards a metrics-based 4+X theory. The holos give you hints through the profs you're told to master, not the professions themselves.
You get a variety of holo profs, then you need to master a variety of post holo profs. You get a bunch of holo profs that focus on one of the main metrics areas, then you master more profs in that metric area.
Of course, this is all speculation, but I'm gleaning through data on 95 unlockers and analyzing their holo profs and unlocking prof in order to possibly lend some credence...

lol i was afraid u where going to say the medic part, kind of thought the same b4 i posted this, just wanted to hear what you had to say =).but yea i basically think its combat medic, and heres why, all my holo professions are in differnt catergorys, and they have something to do with the 4 starter professions, besides 2 which happens to be medic and marksman. and none of the professions are hybrid so wat goes with medic and marksman? combat medic. im not saying every1 is like this, because some people have posted that they got all artisan skills, and theres weird ppl who say there professions spell out other profession /sigh.... but w/e mine has fencer writen all over it =). 1 more thing i might want to add out there, the devs did say unlocking the fs slot is different for everybody....and i think that explains the 1898359813billion theries out there =) ill let ya kno if 1 medic works out.
Maybe Im missing your point but how can this theory be true? If it is then we all have the same way to opening our slots. Enough XP in each metric "class" (lack of a better way of putting it. Seems to me that 5 profs makes more sense b/c the devs said that its different for everybody (for th emost part). This seems to indicate that the way I open mine is different from you. My profs are different from yours. However I have to admit that in my way of thinking we would open it the same way (mastering profs). I dont know, I think this not knowing is going to cause alot of people to quit the game b/c they want their slot open real bad and are tired of hearing about others getting exactly what they themselves want (call it jealousy or not).
My vendors are located at 2716 -5276 just outside of Mos Eisley
Has anyone seen the REAL SWG lately? I miss the game I bought! *sigh*
And that seems to be the major problem with the method... it seems incredibly easy for some, and incredibly difficult for others, based on whatever their profs/metrics/theory du jour happen to be.
It is all getting pretty old pretty fast... =)

Sure going for that information would take forever to check off. But what if you made the server check to see if you had the metrics full, only when you can become a novice? or a master in a proffesion. And when you have it, it gives it to you, hence the need to master the professions.a
OK.. Felg, I think since you've been given three Scout related profs (assuming scout was the other holo prof you hit), I would concentrate on the Scout related profs, because what I beleive is happening is the hint you are given by your cron professions is to master a lot of Scout (Outdoors metric) related skills. SO:
Creature Handler Squad Leader Bio-Engineer
But personally, I'd finish the basic profs first.
You might also want to look at the stats for 3 holo users I posted here:
http://www.riva3d.com/profs.htm
There's a high percentage of unlocks with Brawler...
I'm currently analyzing the same data to determine if the "hints" the devs say the holos give may very well indicate a need to master more profs in a heavily weighted area to unlock. I hope to have this posted soon...
