I suppose I should begin by saying that this is my first post ever, and actually SWG is my first online game as well. Like many of you I presume, I began playng this game with the hope and goal of obtaining a force slot. Unfortunatly I have not been successful. I don't know aht to do now, and to be honest I'm feeling very discouraged. Before the Holo craze, I felt like my character was perfect. (apologys to all the anti-dabblers) But I was an expert BH, part Pistoleer, part Ranger, and part Creature Handler. Then BAM...holocrons came out and it was discovered that to get a FSCS you had to master multiple professions. So I dropped my perfect character to begin my holocron professions. I've since had my holocrons go silent, and in fact I've mastered 5 professions since the silent message. My accomplishments to date:
Began as a Marksman
Mastered Professions:
Marksman
Scout
Medic (Holo #1)
Creature Handler (Holo #2)
--silent message--
Entertainer
Image Designer
Artisian
Squad Leader
Ranger
In addition, I'll list my other accomplishemnts even though I'm of the belief that the Jedi slot is unlocked ONLY by mastering 5-6 Pre-Set professions. With that said, I've also completed 3 theme parks (Jabba, Rebel, and Maurder). I've obtained highest rank in Rebel of Colonel. Completed the story Badge, and also finished many various NPC missions. I'ver declared residency and visited every planet.
I'm begining to believe that a Force Slot isn't necessarlty a reward for hard work and dedication, but rather its more so about being lucky enough to hit the pre-set professions without having to master and drop many professions over and over. For all I know, I could still master 10-15 MORE professions and still not unlock my slot. Its this thought that is making me sick to my stomach. Am I the only one who feels dissapointed with the jedi system? I almost get angry when I think about what exactly I have to show for my almost 6 months of playing this game. I no longer have my perfect character, but rather I'm left with a broken one with skills and professions that I don't enjoy. All that hard work and NOTHING to show for it.
Anyway, I don't mean to bitch and moan. I really enjoyed this game until just recently. I used to look forward to playing evey day. But now, its become almost a chore. I'm left with the only option of mastering more professions and dropping them until I hit the right one. But imagine for a moment how terrible a feeling it is to think that the professions your working on (which you dont want to do in the first place) will do NOTHING to help you unlock you force slot once you master it. Well, thats pretty much the place I'm in right now, since I have no way to know if the hours I'm spending getting master Brawler will even do me any good...or any other profession I master from this point on. Well, I aploogize for my rant. I don't want to discourage other people who may be enjoying the game like I once did. I guess I'm just looking for some moral support to motivate me to keep pushing on.

P.S. To show my frustration with having a "broken" character, I employed the service of an Image Designer (after I dropped master ID myself), and changed my characters appearnace to that of an ugly, obese Twi'lek running around in pink panties. I know its pretty gross to look at me, but the way my character looks pretty much sums up how I feel at this point. Howver, I might add that it's been a bit entertaining hearing your various reactions to my characters appearance!
Quick question, have you tried creating a new character on this server?
The message that you unlocked your slot is not a system message. It's simply put in the chat window in normal text. I received my message immediately after training master in one of my professions (after all the dialogue from the trainer). Honestly, I could have easily missed it and would have never known, because when you log back on you are not notified either. There is not any message on your character select screen. The only time it will come up if you missed the in-game message is in character creation.
For your sake, I hope this is all it is and that when you go to check that you'll be pleasantly surprised. I'm sure there are many out there where this instance might hold true! Take care and good luck!
Most likely at character creation you were given a checklist of things to accomplish that would be different for each player. I have since completed all the games theme parks and NPc's and went to 500 poi's got max rank and all nadges etc etc.. Hard work, roleplaying and dillegence have nothing to do with being a jedi. Its unfortunetly a luck based systems that offers no real reward. What can you even do with a jedi once you get it. Theres nothing to do with it. Theres no place you havent already been to or any creature that you havent encountered. You could literally do everything in the game and not get it due to 1 single missing flag that could be anything from seeing a tree to completing a NPC in some town. Through long term game play you may or may not hit the jackpot.
I would say try the easier routes first and maybe master brawler or artisan, two of the starter ones...I heard most have done 5 of the 6, but not sure.
This is all crap guesswork anyway since all the jedis appeared after they "threw the switch" so to speak...so I am still very leary and cynical about the "real" way to become a jedi.
The way I'm approaching it is fairly easy. I plan on mastering the 6 starting professions (takes little time) and mastering pistoleer (close to that now) before I use my first holocron. If I work my way to a slient holocron and nothing happens, then I know its a random elite profession at which point I'm giving up even trying and just play the game the way I want and let luck decide my fate. I'm not gonna go through mastering 25 elite professions and risking that I'll open the slot on the 25th mastered profession a year or 2 down the road, no way.
