Awesome post. As a fairly new player I learned a lot.
One thing I've been wondering about, and you briefly touched on, is how do you learn/teach languages? Also, is it possible for non-wookies to learn to comprehend the wookie language? (Not going to bother trying to spell it, lol)

You learn languages like you learn any other skill, they just don't cost any XP points or require any prerequisites to learn, and the person teaching them doesn't get any Apprentice XP. (Feel free to /tip though.)
When you group with someone who knows more languages than you and they type /teach , the languages they can teach you appear in the dialog box as options (along with teachable game skills like Marksman, Medic etc). They pick one, you see an offer to learn Dosh (Comprehension), for example, you say Yes, and from that point on you can understand the Trandoshan spoken language.
The only restrictions are as follows:
Wookiees can only speak Shyriiwook - if a Rodian tries to teach them Rodian (Speech) and they say Yes, the teaching fails.
Non-Wookiees cannot speak Shyriiwook - if a Wookiee tries to teach Shyriiwook (Speech) to a Zabrak, the teaching fails.
Ithorians can only speak Basic and Ithorian. (As I sit here, I forget whether non-Iths can speak Ith.)
Any species can learn the written (if that's what it really is) and Comprehension skill for any language.
Twi'leks have two languages, one (Ryl) that anyone can learn to speak and comprehend, and another (Lekku). Lekku is a gesture language (it involves wiggling the worm stapled to their heads) that only Twi'leks can speak, and only Twi'leks and Smugglers (with UW1) can understand. I don't think Lekku has a written form.
Something I am adding here to remind myself for the edit -
PETS ON PARADE
The /tellpet command has a seemingly unkillable bug with single character commands. If you teach your pet/droid "s" for the 'store' command, for example, you can type s in the Spatial chat and the pet will obey, but if you issue the spam-friendly /tellpet s command, nothing will happen. VERY annoying. However, there is a workaround: say the 1-char command twice.

It alienates our players,? he said. ?Instead of sticking to the thing we love, we start changing it. The 3.5 million people who are already playing our game, they're happy! Why are we changing it??

This is by far the best general use guide I have ever read. I've learned a couple new things in here and i've been playing since Beta 3 for the original release. What suprises me is that this hasn't been stickied yet, first thing I did was float it so it'll always be at the top for me
