Ship Handling As a pilot, you will need to know the basics on ship performance, in space flight, how ships handle and the different kinds of competition you will encounter. The information below will help provide a basic understanding of the different types of available ships. It will also introduce you to terminology commonly used to describe them as well as provide specifics on how each ship handles. However, remember however, these ratings are just a starting point to understanding space combat in Star Wars Galaxies. From here, ship performance will also depend on your ship components, your droids (and their commands) and on the skill of the pilot. They can carry a limited amount of equipment but can handle very well. Medium Fighter Medium fighters have more mass than light fighters so they can carry more equipment (weapons and armor). However, they don't handle quite as sharply as a Light Fighter. Heavy Fighters Heavy fighters are designed to carry quite a bit more equipment at the cost of maneuverability. They are designed to fight long and hard in a dogfight. Interceptor Interceptors are space crafts designed specifically to attack other fighters. They can be set up for sheer speed, or they can have a balance of speed and weapons to make them more formidable in combat. Bomber Bombers are heavy ships with lower-level maneuverability, but they can carry a wider variety and larger number of weapons. They are also capable of carrying additional armor and a full range of weapons and should not be underestimated. Multi-Passenger Ship Multi-passenger ships serve a variety of roles from luxury sightseeing to military support and even space mining. Handling Details Minimum Rotation/Optimal Rotation / Maximum Rotation These ship attributes determine the maximum speed at which a ship can travel at in order to achieve the best possible turn. Slide The ship "slide" attribute determines how much a ship will “slide” in a turn. Zero (0) 0 means the sharpest turn. Acceleration / Deceleration Acceleration and deceleration attributes determine the ship’s speed per second increase or decrease. Yaw / Pitch / Roll These ship attributes modify the speed at which a ship can spin or turn: • Yaw: This is how fast a ship can turn from left to right. • Pitch: This is how fast a ship can change direction up and down. • Roll: This is how fast a ship can spin along its axis from front to back. Speed Modifier This is a percent (%) of the listed engine speed attainable by a chassis. For example, a 100 speed engine in an X-Wing would go 950 (95x10). |
