I've only been back for a little while, but I have to say that this is a very helpful thread.

I'm still not really sure what good loot and such is, but at least I know one shipwright to never sell anything to ever, and preferably never buy anything from.

I just hope to really get all this sorted out before long, and finish working my way up to ace.  I've been able to solo the RSF (had a little trouble on two missions, one of which was just because no one had explained how to disable a ship before the game told me to do it, the other time I was simply not prepared to face a YT and several support ships...  Anyway...) up to 3/3/3/3.  The 1 mil xp per a 4th tier box is going to be annoying, I think but N'Varra showed me a place that spawns at least a few tier 4 npcs to shoot down (3 of them spawn, but the spawn is very slow, to easy to kill all 3 then the one at a time that show up slowly) and a better spot to kill tier 3s (half the xp, but there is almost always at least one or more to kill, and the kills are a bit faster anyway).

So now I know what to do with the amount of loot I am bound to earn after having killed (total) around 2433.09 of these guys, assuming my math is right (which I doubt it is).  Gonna have to try one of those 4th tier missions before long though, but I read somewhere that it takes xp and one of the quests to get a box, so I may as well have the box ready first...

Some shipwright is going to owe me a lot of credits by the end of this, all of which I bet I will spend on his ass...

Inspiration buff + completed Tier 4 duty mission = *nearly* 500k experience.

Repeat 2x and you've got your box.

The Neverending Kimo spawn may be faster, I don't know, but I'd rather inject my eyeballs with hot sauce than sit there soloing for very long.  Maybe that's just me.

Did I mention that there were a lot of other things I don't know about besides just whats in space?

Like, for example, that I don't know what an inspiration buff is?  What and where is good armor?  If I want to respec out of swordsman or meele altogether?  If my powerhammers and scyth blade are any good for anything anymore?  If my pre-nerf (and pre-CU now it would seem) T-21 is still worth more than a cool prop for starting off on the stories I like to tell?  If any of the other rifles, scatter pistols, and other odds and ends I collected (including a bunch of albatross feathers that I could never get rid of after afew of those birds spawned outside Xanadu Bay)?

I am so far behind the times its almost sad...  Or maybe it is sad, and I'm just to far behind to know it yet.

Bleh, things I'll learn about eventually, and talking about it anymore would be thread hijacking.  So, back to thinking about space loot, and the selling and/or not selling of.

New stats (lower drain, slightly higher Pitch):

103.4 Speed - 108.5
73.2 Pitch - 76.9
71.6 Yaw  - 75.2
72.2 Roll  - 75.8
22897 Mass - 21752
1346 Drain

Still trying to get YPR to 76+ across the board.

Also looted an L6 engine with 68 Pitch this evening, and an L7 shield with 11.86 recharge. Sweet. Now I just need another L7 shield with around 15k mass.

Not to mention duties actually teach you how to survive in a semi-closed environment, which makes missions which thrust you into a non-equal engagement all the more simpler...

...raping spawns is work for Aces AFTER they Ace and want to look for loot. Duties aren't just there as placeholders, they're teaching tools. I did my T2 duties in a TIE/ln with a week-old crafted T5 blaster. There's absolutely no excuse that they'd be "too hard" now, with JTL being over half a year old.

And I'm sure I'm gonna get people saying - "pfft, Jo's on his high horse again. What should he care how people get their xp?"

I do care, because sitting around and playing "Pot the Clay Pigeon" breeds ignorant pilots, and ignorance begets ignorance. I'd like for at least one percent of "the new breed" to actually know how to handle themselves in space.

As such, the "space scene" on Eclipse is almost nonexistent. The only reason [most] new people are up there now is after seven months of neglect, people are finally seeing they can profit up in space, whereas no one can solo Krayts anymore without a buddy and two glowsticks. That, and they got JTL for free with the expansion.

"But it's not your place to tell me how I level!"

You're right, it isn't. Go on and get Ace without dying or actually challenging yourself. But find me in-game - you'll see I don't wear my Ace title. I wear the jacket, but not the title.

Why?

Because it's meaningless, and the word "Ace" seems to have become synonymous with "doormat" in the past few months. People wear the title who barely earned it themselves (with the obvious exceptions who know full well who they are)...they were present during a mission they had...that's about it. I get people asking me to help on TIER 2 missions (haven't had a Tier 1 request yet, but I've heard others who have been asked for such a thing). I've had people ask me if I have a POB ship so they can SKIP their T2/T4 DUTY missions. I mean, seriously - people will grind mission after mission after mission ad infinitum for months on end for a glowstick but not f*cking do an hour-long duty mission?

I mean, why - you've become so lethargic from a diet of function-key macro gaming that working on a third dimension is too daunting?

I mean, COME ON! Is it REALLY so much of a goddamned imposition to learn how to fly? Or rather, I have a sense of humility and realism...is it really so much of a hardship to BOTHER to learn how to move a mouse around in an efficient enough fashion so you actually have something to have a swell of pride in when you put a title above your head for a reason other than being an Ace at coercing someone to do your missions/work for you?

Simply put...

...would YOU be proud to be a title-wearing Ace in such a climate full of players who had their title earned for them by someone else, or an entire NEW group who expect said treatment?

Heh...  Damnit, I wish I had just came back at JTL, I've loved space so far.  Just have trouble outfitting my ship.

I've soloed every mission I've had to do up to tier 4, with only afew instances where I've needed to ask questions and such.  And I've done the seemingly never ending duty missions at tier 4 for forever now...  I know I'm not a great pilot, and the only good thing about the ship I've flown up till now is that the shipwright went through all the trouble to make it a heavy mass, but this stuff isn't that hard.

Of course I've managed to run into trouble on the first mission after I get training.  I swear, an imperial shuttle can expect me to stay anywhere from 1m-2km and kill every rebel that gets close without them getting below 95% shields, but if you fly through a group of tier 4 pirates of two...  Heh, I start to have trouble keeping my shields up, keeping the rebels out of the sky and the pirates off my ass.  Enough trouble to lose, at that.

So, maybe, O' god of piloting, you had an easy enough time with all of this.  But you forget something.  The new pilots haven't been in space anywhere near as long as you have, and yet they have to read about and watch people who have been doing this for so much longer do things that appear amazing and use equipment they have little or no chance of ever using anything like.

Now, I have a lot of respect for you considering I've never met or talked to you, but chill out a bit dude.  Some of us had damned good reasons not to be flying around, much less not be in game at all.  So I'm going to go back to my RSF missions, alone, and not just because thats how I like to fly, because if my friends list was inactive before its dead now with only 4-5 people who ever get on anymore.  Most of which I barely talk to, or don't talk to at all.  And eventually, I'm going to catch up with everything I've missed, earn enough credits and have farmed enough of these damned things to buy good parts for my ship.

Not all of us want to AFK grind space.  Those that do are ruining the game for themselves and are going to find that they are often on the wrong end of the blasters of someone who played the game and probably know even less than I do.

So chill out dude.  You're wasting your breath.  You're preaching to the choir.  You're yelling at people who can't or won't hear you.  Those of us who would love to do what you ask would do it if you were being calm about it, being angry doesn't help.

If you're not sending people tells asking for help with your missions without even trying them first, or begging for space powerlevelling, he probably isn't talking to *you* in that angry tone of voice.  Don't take it personally.

I'm a new pilot myself.  I just came back to SWG a month ago after a year long break, and dove straight into JTLS.  I didn't even know about the heavy mass variants, so I ground through the Inquisition missions in a Light Duty, then TIE/In, then Interceptor and Advanced, outfitted with storebought components and non-RE'd loot (thank you, Dinas Askari).  I died plenty of times, but I solo'd every mission except Tier 3 #4, which my guild leader helped with on my 10th attempt.  (Damn gunboat... seems so ridiculously easy now.)

The only way to learn is to practice.  It's not like decay matters when you're going to ditch the piece of junk you're flying later on anyway.  I consider myself a decent pilot now, but I know I wouldn't be there without simply putting in the time flying - and dying, at first.

Of course, a lot of people don't care about being a good pilot, or having fun in space.  They just want the title and the perks.  That's who Jotun is yelling at.  They may not care, but it's cathartic to yell anyway.

I know...  Its just kinda annoying when someone goes on a rant after quoting something someone said to help me, leading me away from the grind they both seem to dislike so greatly.  But if someone wants to either ruin their game or knowingly spend hours doing a mind numbing grind...

The never ending spawn and the duty missions haven't been so much different anyway...  It may be different for the two or three I haven't tried, but the two I have done arn't terribly amazing.

I didn't even know how big a difference a high mass variant would be anyway, its the only ship I was certed to fly in the shop N'Varra said I should go to.

Anyway, NPC ships are there for whoever can and wants to kill them.  A 3/3/3/3 needs credits just as much as a ace, maybe more, and there are plenty of vendors who will take your junk loot for 2k a level.  Hopefully very little of that terribly leet loot will fall into the hands of people who will waste it, but the only way you will really stop that is by spamming in Theed or wherever saying you will buy the loot listed in this thread for 10x what a wasteful SW will take it for.

edit: obvious enough spelling error for even me to catch it...  Fixed now...

Alright, normally I'd just be thankful, but this has kinda freaked me out.  So, three questions.

1) Isn't the borstel an imperial quest reward of some sort?
2) Namely, where do you get it?
3) Assuming the answer to 1 is yes, why the hell do I have one in my inventory?

It appeared in my inventory after a credit chip and afew pieces of crap loot, and before afew other pieces of crap loot.  I was gathering loot at the time for a shipwright friend of mine who was paying me the going rate of 2k per a level of each piece of loot you sell them (I managed to spend all my credits, and I don't feel like relearning the ground game right now).  Kinda freaked me out.  N'Varra wants it pretty bad it seems, and I'd like to know why the devil I even have one to start with.

Ooooh...  Alright.  Does that mean if someone did all three privateer squads they'd have 3 borstel disruptors?

Or is it only a reward for one of the squads, or the first time you get to a certain part of tier 4 in a squad?
