Because then Jedi would become the loot barons. The only way this could ever work is if crystals and pearls were made non-tradable. Additionally, if the only place you could forage/harvest a pearl would be in the Krayt Graveyard - where do you think every single online BH on the server would be 24/7/365?
I've been saying for awhile that crystals need to be made no-drop. That would be the final step in getting rid of the "Jedi economy" that started with holos and has moved to lightsaber components. Hopefully, if they were no-drop, the get-rich-quickers would give up and go away.
The reason they don't want light sabers to be indestructible is because that way, EVERYONE will eventually have the best possible saber for every occasion. I don't think when they said 'we want sabers to still cycle out of the economy' they meant the player economy, they simply don't want every jedi to have a perfect -9 krayt saber and never have to do anything again. This is how I think it should be:
Let everyone have indestructible 'standard sabers' with stats based purely on resources (pearls/crystals not used) in the range of 1000 damage or so 50 force cost 3.5 speed for a gen 5. These you could use for grinding if you can't get crystals/pearls and they will never need repair, will never die.
Pearl/crystal sabers should be able to range much higher in damage with lower force cost and speed, but need repairs, and eventually die out.
Wouldn't that fix the problem of jedi HAVING to spend ungodly amounts on sabers, but still allow for variety in sabers, and keep jedi searching for newer better saber components?
There is still a need for sabers to eventually cycle out of the economy, so don't think we are ever going to have indestructible sabers (as far as I've been told).
are you crazy why should there be a economy based on the jedi??? jedi should be stand alone and not need to go out and spend 500k to 5 million on a crystal/pearl... this has been said over and over and over. hell this is one of the resions i havent played my jedi in two months, that and the fact that there is no content.

Am I supposed to be happy about this? I call a failure when you repair your saber with a 99.9% repair tool when it's condition is 566/1000 and it lowers the condition to 566/566! It's a start but it's still not right.
well this should only be temporary since in the JEDI FAQ it says jedi will be able to prevent such decay meaning jedi can stop a saber from decaying....
5% max condition lost on the best repair is pretty darn close.

I don't buy that. Jedi shouldn't be influenced or influence the economy.
While I certainly believe this is a huge step in the right direction, a properly cared for saber should be able to last indefinately.
The question is, how should it work?
Personally, I believe that while there is a need to pull pearls/crystals from the economy, players should have sabers which will last them most of their jedi career.
A possibility might be this:
5th Gen sabers can be used in a new schematic that combines the saber itself and a pearl or crystal. This resets the condition to 1000/1000, just like any saber upgrade, and allows the blade to change color. The damage and speed is only changed to calculate the difference between the previous saber's 4th crystal/pearl and the new crystal/pearl used in the saber.
Example:
Bob the Jedi has been grinding away and manages to get his saber down to 163/175 condition attempting to wipe out the entire Rancor species. Now, Bob has an all pearl saber, a 1500 max damage, 1.0 speed beauty. The last pearl Bob used was 175 damage, -1.0 speed, -9 force power cost.
But Bob needs to refresh the mechanism in the saber, it's just too worn down. So Bob tosses the saber in his schematic, along with a new pearl that isn't quite as good. This one is only 160 damage, -0.8 speed, and -4 force cost. Bob is not given the choice of grips he had, and the blade color is changed to that of the new pearl. The new saber damage/speed/force cost is calculated with the difference between the old 4th pearl and the new pearl, so the saber loses 15 damage and gains 0.2 speed, and 5 force cost (the difference between the two pearls). Bob now has maintained his saber, taking a pearl out of the economy, it has not been of a fashion that requires Bob to spend 4 pearls in order to get a saber back to where it was.
Seems fair to me. The crystals/pearls burn out after a while, and need to be replaced, but the main part of the saber still remains.
When the devs are done petting the Jedis, can they maybe come fix the OTHER 33 professions in the game?
I think the reason why they are fixing jedi all the time is because they rushed the profession ingame untested with alot of bugs and exploits.
From the launch and 6 months after that the devs have been saying that people could unlock it, yet about 3 months ago to patched the jedi profession ingame with a rush, they even had to add lightsaber effects and such a few weeks later.
Jedi is still in a testing fase i guess and that is why they fix them more then they do with other professions.

Yeah, to me, this is the compromise b/t non-decaying sabers, and the crap we have now.
