My two cents:

if you aren't up for a long jog back, don't stray too far from cities when sampling ect, at least untill they get vechcles out. i did this once and had to run and run and run and run for half an hour to get back. it's very easy to turn on autorun, bring up your surveyer, and hunt for resources, and not realize how far you've come. this is obvious, but thought i would put it in anyway.

if your waiting for a shuttle with a group or just some frendly person you met, try having some fun with each other. try commands like /pillow, /bonk, /bodyslam, /headlock, /bang, or /hack for a laugh. check ctrl+A for more of them! just another thing i thought i'd throw in. and also, there are variations for all emotes. putting self after it or a target name after it does something a little different. ex: "/bonk" by itself does this: bonk! bOnk boNk! but going "/bonk self" does: you bonk yourself on the head. look at all the birdies!

i know this is for "did you know?" things, but i thought i should put that in there too.

now for the useful stuff:

Artisans: Did you know?

if you're having trouble finding resources, and can afford to spend around 3000 credits (for most of them) you can buy resources in great quantities in the bazzar. a little obvious but theres more:

doing crafting jobs DOES get you crafting exp. keep doing them and you be leveling up soon.

General: Did you know?

you can swim forever. don't be afraid to swim in that ocean to get to the other side! (at least, you could last time i checked, haven't logged on since last update)

don't keep your weapon drawn all the time. i'm not sure, but i think that creatures have less chance of attacking you if you don't appear hostile because you have no weapon drawn.

if you don't have much exp in fighting, then rori is the place to be. usually just outside the city walls yuo can find packs of "frail squalls" little bunny- like cretures that can be killed easily from afar. often, after you start shooting, they won't even attack back. pick em' off, gather there exp and resources (bone, meat or hide) and eventually you have enough exp to go after the bigger creatures. but watch out, make sure there is no large squall in the area, if you star attacking frail squalls with "mama" around, it will attack, i think. and clobber you probably. it's like, 4 times your size. but the frail ones are only the size of your pistol.

typing lol (no, you _DON'T_ need a slash for this one) automatically makes you character pose as if hes laughing.

To have fun: did you know?

try talking to yourself. just for fun, i sometimes go beep beep boop beep bzzt or something near an astromech, and pretend i'm talking to it.

and sometimes, when i'm alone i go fhfkdhfdjshfjssjfkjsfh VOCAL MODULATOR FAILURE sdhfsfsjdhgfjdhgjkfdhgjfdhgdfjgh or some thing. it looks pretty funny.

someone else said to strip yourself naked. well, i have to agree with him. of course, you aren't really naked, your just in your underwear. try talknig to a few NPC's. i'm not sure it will produce a different response, so find out for yourself. and if any player comes along, go EEK! or something and run away. this is great for a laugh.

mabie you could also try pretending you're a crazy hobo? (say crazy stuff and sit in a corner muttering)

anyway, that wasn't too much info, and i don't have any really advanced tips, but i thought i may as well add these.

READ THE MANUAL!

There is a lot of great information in the manual that gets bypassed simply because most of us never bother to give it a glance before tossing the box in the closet. Some of the most helpful info i've gotten has come from the tips that are shown during load times, and almost all of this info is in the manual. Even seasoned players might find something useful, you never know

I find it a lot more useful to have the thumb button as double-click, there's so much doubleclicking in this game i've probably saved myself 10's of thousands of clicks already

Is anyone aware of a way to shut down a long macro early?  That would be really useful to know.
__________________________________________________________________

there's no way to terminate a macro per se short of logging out, but you can build the macro differently.

Say you have a macro:

/stand;/sample;/pause 600;/sit;/pause 200;/stand;/sample;/pause 600;/sit;/pause 200;/stand;/sample;/pause 600;/sit;/pause 200;

You can't end this any other way than logging out before it ends, but, you can do this:

/alias samp /sample;/pause 600;
/alias rest /sit;/pause 200;/stand;

Now we have the two basic repeats in aliases, ok, here comes the mindbender, we make four aliases to make two aliases with two options, see if you can follow

/alias sampleon /alias samp /sample;/pause 600;
/alias sampleoff /alias samp "";
/alias reston /alias rest /sit;/pause 200;/stand;
/alias restoff /alias rest "";

See where I'm going? We're making "toggles"

Now we make the final two macros, one to turn on sampling, one to turn it off

/sampleon;/reston;/samp;/rest;/samp;/rest;/samp;/rest;/samp;/rest;/samp;/rest;/samp;/rest;/samp;/rest;
/sampleoff;/restoff

Put those two in buttons on the shortcut bar and you can start sampling with one (repeating /samp;/rest; far enough in the first macro will let you basically sample all night while reading a book, watching movies, chatting, etc) and then if you suddenly decide not to sample anymore, just hit the second macro which makes both aliases to do nothing and the macro will run itself out in seconds and not printout anything.

If you understand this tip, you can start building a lot more intensive macros

And also, I really dont know MMORPG lingo so can someone please explain: nerf, agro, mob

Ok, in reverse order:

The word "mob" stands for Mobile OBject. As the full name suggests, it's any entity controlled by artificial intelligence (i.e., it's not a Player Character) that can move. In Star Wars terms, you could classify mobs as droids, sentients, and animals. In game terms, mobs probably fall into categories such as 'mission NPCs', 'attackable', 'non-attackable' (this category would include most Rebel and Imperial NPCs if you're neutral, and most 'mission NPCs'), and 'pets'.

The word "agro" is related to the words "aggressive" and "aggression." It has two related meanings. An 'agro mob' is a mob which will attack some (or all) player characters if they enter the mob's "agro range." The "agro range" of most mobs in Star Wars Galaxies seems to be 39 meters, by the way, and the maximum range for most blasters is 65 meters. Generally, if a mob appears red on your radar, then it is an 'agro mob.'

The second meaning of "agro" relates to a mob's actions. If it is trying to attack you, then you 'have agro' or it 'has agro on you.' When a mob tries to attack a PC (or another mob), then you say it 'agros'.

The word "nerf" refers to a product released by the toy company Tonka (which is now a part of the Hasbro conglomerate) in the 1960's. The first Nerf toys were balls made of a soft, rubbery foam. The idea was that you could play with them in the house with no danger of breaking anything. Later, Tonka released the Nerf gun, which shot "bullets" made of the same Nerf-foam. Again, the idea was that young children could play with these toys without injuring themselves or breaking things.

According to Raph Koster, the creative director behind Star Wars Galaxies and one of the designers behind Ultima Online (UO), the word "nerf" was first applied to a change made to weapons in UO:
At some point, we reduced the power of swords in melee combat, and players started complaining that they were hitting each other with nerf swords. The rest is history...
So a "nerf" has come to mean any reduction in power to any part of the game.

I should have posted this as soon as I found it, but most of you probably read through Tuesdays Tips and saw that /dump will end any macro that has a pause in it.  Pretty convenient now that we've all made so many long ways around it.

Some of my pet peeve bugs:
•Armorsmith protection layers were not converted with the CU.
•Ship Details window does not close when you click "Travel" resulting in the message "You have lost the target. Closing interface."

One artisan waypoint tip -

If you make waypoints to high concentrations of resources, be sure to name your waypoints with the date in it, so next time the resources shift and you don't immediately clean out your datapad, you know automatically which ones are old and which ones are new. There is nothing more frustrating than running a few 1000k and finding that the waypoint of 98% of that high-quality resource is outdated and there is now none of it there at all.

Interesting concept... but I don't think you can call more than one alias from a macro. That is, I've tried making something like this and it didn't work because I had too many aliases in my macro.

Luckily the /dump command should stop all running macros. Haven't tried it yet though... don't have any long macros that would need it.
