Is there a "/" command to execute macros?

Yup, it's the name of the macro.  Name a macro "foo" and you can invoke it with "/foo".

Speaking of macros, did you know that calls to macros can be imbedded inside of a macro?  I'm an Artisan, so I need to do a lot of sampling to get materials.  Let's say I need to run down to the store for a six-pack, wouldn't it be nice to keep sampling?  I don't recommend doing this during peak times as it locks other players out if the server is full, but if the server isn't busy, give this a try:

Check out the following macro:

/sample;/pause 375;/sit;/pause 225;

This causes my character to sample for the currently selected resource until my green bar drops to near 0, then he sits and waits for it to recover (you recover faster when sitting.) The process takes exactly 10 minutes. I timed how long the sampling and recovery took for my character to maximize the time spent gathering. This will vary depending on the characters base attributes, so the pauses may need to be adjusted for other characters.

Next I repeated the line as many times as I could in the macro editor. It was about 25 times, so that makes it run once every ten minutes for 250 minutes (4Hrs, 10 min approx.) At 10:00 PM, I surveyed a spot that had a 60% concentration of Duralloy Steel (best I could find on short notice.) I started the macro and went to bed. At 1:30 AM I happened to wake up for a nature call, so I checked and the game had crashed. I brought it back up and saw that I had 624 units of Duralloy Steel. Not too bad, so I restarted the macro and went back to bed. When I woke up at 5:45 AM, the macro had run to completion and I had approx. 1.6K of Duralloy Steel. So if the game doesn't crash I can collect 1K every 4 hrs at 60% concentration.

BTW, did you know that duralloy steel has a Unit Toughness of 1000 and a Decay Resistance of 987. Those two properties are critical for building Harvesters.

This isn't bad, but there's a better way to do it using multiple macros.  I will demonstrate this using two macros. The first one will be named "SampleFor1Hour" and looks like this:

/sample;/pause 375;/sit;/pause 225;

/sample;/pause 375;/sit;/pause 225;

/sample;/pause 375;/sit;/pause 225;

/sample;/pause 375;/sit;/pause 225;

/sample;/pause 375;/sit;/pause 225;

/sample;/pause 375;/sit;/pause 225;

If I put this on a a hotkey, I can use it when I leave to eat dinner or do something for an hour or so. Cool! Now lets do a second macro named SampleFor8Hrs:

/SampleFor1Hr;/pause 3600;

/SampleFor1Hr;/pause 3600;

/SampleFor1Hr;/pause 3600;

/SampleFor1Hr;/pause 3600;

/SampleFor1Hr;/pause 3600;

/SampleFor1Hr;/pause 3600;

/SampleFor1Hr;/pause 3600;

/SampleFor1Hr;/pause 3600;

/logout;

This runs the second macro once every hour for 8 hours then logs out of the system. By using that macro, my character can collect resources all night while I'm asleep and will max out the survey skills in less than two days if I train in between.  Oh, and if you are really good, you can have it spawn a new camp once an hour while you are collecting resources so that you can get scouting experience on top of everything else!

I cannot get the macro stuff to work. I have a macro called abcd to test this out. It just sends a tell to myself for testing purposes. Now, when I just type in /abcd, it only says that there is no mood abcd. Does calling a macro this way only work from within another macro? I can't imagine that being true, but I cannot get it to work. Any help? Thanks.

I also cannot get macro in macro calling to work, but I have a sneaking suspicion that you cannot call the name of the macro you are currently running.  IE, you can't call /mysamplemacro; from within itself.  Tried that to loop and macro and no go.

Is there a way to target another player using a / command, such as /target playername?

I want to be able to target another player using the keyboard, and not cycling targets, but targetting directly.

Devs: Please (if there isn't already) put in an option to have still icons in inventory instead of spinning ones

Why? It won't improve your framerate if that's what you're thinking. The framerate drop you get from opening your inventory is from it using 3D models for every item. The spinning makes very little difference (it's rendering the 3D models anyway).

Unless you've got some other reason for wanting to turn it off, in which case you'd probably better explain yourself.

Is there a way to embed something in a macro that will insert your target in what you say? In EQ, you could tell your group,

"Watch out! %t is coming our way!"

And your group would see "Watch out, a large rat is coming our way!"

I haven't seen anyone using "Incoming" macros in SWG, and the absence of combat communication in groups is driving me nuts. Anyone have any good combat communication macros they're using? Or assist macros? I could use a really good assist macro. I still haven't gotten that one to work right.

This is straight from the online manual:

% You can now put variables in your text in order to automatically insert words and names. For example, you can emote looks at %NT in disgust, then waves %OT away. and get Fred looks at a bantha in disgust, then waves it away. The available variables are:
  • %TU - your full name (first and last)
  • %TT - your current look at target target's full name
  • %NU - your first name
  • %NT - your target's short version name (first only)
  • %SU - personal subjective pronoun: he/she/it for the speaker
  • %ST - he/she/it for the target
  • %OU - personal objective pronoun: him/her/it for the speaker
  • %OT - him/her/it for your target
  • %PU - possessive: his/her/its for the speaker
  • %PT - his/her/its for your target
  • %RU - your species
  • %RT - your target's species

I must say though, I think in their example it would say "Fred looks at a in disgust, then waves it away". Instead of %NT they might actually put in %TT. Which brings up another question... why isn't there one for a character's last name only? Like %LT and %LU.

Hope that helps.

Try:

"Watch out! %TT is coming our way!"

There is a list of these commands in the manual (and probably the holocron?).

Did you know.......

When equiping the backpack.. it takes away from you carry pool..   thus if you have like 20 items in your backpack.. equip it and remove it from your pool.

Home OWNERS Did you know....

Need a place to hang your stuff? hang a backpack!! great storage device and only YOU the home owner can access it

Also if you stand in place and drop your stuff in a home. You can display your armor all in proper place (sorry no weapons)

Low-combat people with driods: did you know...

That if you have your driod NOT group but with you. IT will still protect you and attack things. You can take pop shots at the mobs (Attacking the droid) and get some exp.

Also if the driod IS group with you (using group command) if the droid attacks.. the mobs ATTACKS you.

Rifle users.. Did you know..

That if you have a pet/droid not group and attack stuff.. you can still use your headshots and get exp this way droids doesn't take it all.

Crafers with factories.....

If you have a stuck crate (either cannot take item out... or rubber band effect) you can trade with someone else or move to another container might help. what is rubberband effect? well it when you try to take an item out reduce the number then it returns again into the crate....  trade or move to another containers usually "Fix" this.. sometimes you just have to log out to get the item out.

Did you know...

you can also create macros via .txt file just place the file in the root of your SWG directory. inside the text file start with the alias same as text file for east of use.. i.e.  music.txt (file) inside the file music; /flourish 1; etc etc

then on the chat command type /load music.txt and to run it.. its /music   this way you can compose or do thing with macros without having to type many lines and cut and paste!

Combat tricks for living longer and using scout marksman skills

1) When fighting animals with carbines or rifles use warning shot ot threaten shot to move the mob away.

    1) head shot/head shot/warning shot/head shot/head shot

2) Use a bone spur trap to take the head down then head shot head shot warning shot

3) To save a silly medic in the meele zone with agro (silly guys using a pistol)

     /warning shot

throw

4) If you are running for your life use burst run and warning shot peace warning shot peace

5) Practice your burst run so you know when to kick it in to just make it to the guards

6) When travelling use mask sent always

       6.1) It may give you experience 28 (how cares) 345 (duh run the other way)

      6.2) mask sent /successful take cover when starting on a mob gives up 60 seconds of free shooting

EXCELLENT THREAD-

Ok I can't believe no one has mentioned this- someone asked about it way back:

How to quickly shift from chat tab to chat tab:

CTRL+ HOME (forwards) and CTRL+ END (backwards)

Hmm anything else? I've found that if you use the healing that doesn't require a stimpack RIGHT before you incap, you will fall down, the mob will unaggro, and you will jump right back up, with a sliver of heallth.(tend? It's one of the icons you get when you get Medic)

At that point I recommend what my boys in Pink Floyd advise "Run Like H3LL"

Hmmm anything else? Sleeping or reclining mobs seem to go down more quickly- I always kill them around a hive/hole/burrow first.

On Red Mobs at Mission sites: I'll use the "thief" example I had 3x in one night-

One yellow, one red- I'm not very high at all- gun is crappy, but servicable. I take Mr. Yellow in such a way that he will not cross paths with Mr. Red. I hit at optimal range. Red stays- doesn't assist. I kill Mr Yellow. Heal up.

I go back at MAXIMUM range for my weapon and hit Mr. Red. I kite him away from the "gambling camp" and spam my "Peace" button, which I advise you put on f12, so you always know where it is. plus it's the closest buttton to numlock, which is autorun.

Anyway, I spam peace and he backs off... I heal up circle VERY wide of Mr. Red.

He is now far enough away from the camp that I can kill the camp (from exactly opposite Mr Red, so i am furthest from him), and get my mission completed, without having to kill him since he never aggros... I imagine he is still looking for me in the tall grass ;-)

Ginnsu

Don't run, you'll only die tired...
