Pilot Issues Thread (Updated 3/11)


  1. Post Master Content

    Pilots have a great quest based system to reach master. After reaching master there is very little content for us. Most of the other profession's content is non-mastering based and is exciting after master level. Many pilots have reached over 100 million in prestige. Our focus thread on adding to the post-master content of pilots. Many would say "more ships, more ships, more ships" for players to fly.


    • NOTE: It looks like NO FS trade is wanted by the majority.

    • Some use for prestige points at a huge cost in the millions

      • 1 time use schematics for ships, components, sub-components, faction clothing, etc.

      • Items like POB ship furniture, special textures, and the list goes on...

    • Ground game linking

      • Category 1: Master Missions. Ground/Space based missions maybe even some based out of POB ships

      • Category 2: More GCW links to Ground for all pilots

    • Master level space missions

      • Kessel run and other cannon and EU based theme missions

      • Beefed up pilot missions from your master pilot trainer. I.E. Take a T4 mission, move it to Kessel. Move all ships to T5 craft and increase the spawn rate. Make it a good challenge.



  2. POB Ships "The Big3" YT, Decimator, Nova

    The Big3 "should be fortresses" but currently are under defended in both PvE and PvP. The general feeling is that they should be worth about 2 to 3 times the other master level ships in combat. Currently they are almost less effective then 1 Krayt/Oppressor/B-wing (well maybe not so much the B /wink) A little work to the Big3 could add to post master content and make these ships a viable and well used part of JTL. Our focus thread and some related and unrelated ideas from the community.


    • Add an autopilot to the Big3 and the Yacht (or keep it flying when you stand up)

    • Add a defensive modifier to POB ship chassis for both PvP and PvE

    • Add a second reactor/shield/armor slots (many feel this is still not enough alone). Double up the weapons in turrets and give them each a capacitor

    • Reloading missiles in space from a console

    • Better use of co-pilot/pilot relationship. Add more functionality to co-pilot or allow pilot to run droid commands. Currently the co-pilot chair is a very boring place to be most of the time. Even going as far as making the co-pilot the "theater of battle" commander for the groups fleet making the Big3 a nice addition to a battle by adding the ability to "flag" targets for all in group and other ideas.

    • Add special HUGE mass subcomponents for SW to be put in shields and armor that significantly increase armor/shield hitpoints. Heavy enough that they can only be placed in the Big3.

    • Fix the reverse-steering on booster shut down

    • Add a 3rd missile slot to the YT


  3. Droids and commands

    Some work is needed in the area of droids and droid commands the pilots think. Many droid commands do not have a "down side" and take away from the great feel of balancing in JTL like the mass-component, energy-mass, and firepower-capacitor recharge.

    • WO3. Weapon overload 3 increases damage output but does not increase energy per shot. Many pilots feel that this is unbalancing in PvP and would go along way to making PvP more fun.

      • Fixing this would also make the pre-nerf/patch/exploited shields even more of an issue in PvP. On some servers is has been said these shields are in widespread use.

    • The ship status menu in-game {V} does not update with new values after a droid command are run. Updated values for energy, damage, etc would be a nice addition

    • Renaming Flight Computers. Can not be renamed after in datapad and any custom names crafted by DE's are reverted to the generic names once loaded in datapad.

    • The fire-dummy-missile command. Many feel this is a neat little option to have in space. It is used as our space emote to friends, and to altert foes to our presence. HOWEVER it is also used in many situations to lower your opponents frame rate or send them CTD. Adding a 45 second timer or removing would fix this (IMHO).

    • The Rebel commands are very much under-used now. The addition to Privateers brought them in line with the Imperials and tended to leave the Rebels on the low end. One suggestion was to shorten the timer on shield adjust to allow for more "on-the-fly" adjustments and make the rebel commands more sought after.



  4. Current group missions

    • Mission length: Some of the missions (can you say Storm Squadron or Corvette Master) are close to 2 hours in length. This can make it hard to find help on missions as well as make it difficult to offer help many times. Some method of "staging" longer missions and more reliable Corvette timers would be nice. The corvettes will also not likely spawn if the Gunboats or Fighters are milling around at the exit points, most pilots do not know this and can spend 6 hours, very frustrated, unsuccessfully waiting to make master.

    • Add in the ability for group to see mission waypoints.


  5. PvP and lack of players in deep space

    Deep Space is dead on most servers. There is very little PvP going on across the board.

    • PvP ranking system. Some type of ranking system for PvP kills would give many a reason to participate more often.

    • PvP Damage. The posters on the forum are very divided on this issue. Many feel that fixing WO3 will be all thats needed or that they "can not tell" until after this is fixed. But it is safe to assume that PvP in space consists of 1 volley 1 kill or is very close. There can be a HUGE ammount of skill involved getting those 1 or 2 shots in. But this "discussion" continues to pop up on the JTL and Pilot's forums from time to time with many of the same themes.

    • PvP currently is "reserved" to those who have mastered, or are on their second or third master but still "in-tier". Only masters are allowed in our only "non-decay" area for PvP. Suggestions of adding a second PvP zone (like the old kessel with 3 opposed factions) in-addition to kessel (or where ever the master mission are not run) would allow non-master to participate. A majority of the PvP-enabled players not in deep space are A) farming faction or B) looking for those who are farming faction.


Misc updates on some issues:


After privateers enter deep space and have "chosen" a side for that trip they continue to be aligned with that faction in kessel after they leave deep space. This remains until the ship is redeeded. (I have confrimed this fix as many others have).

This is a "known issue" /cheer. And will be fixed at some point. Did not get any coding specific informaion, but I can guess that since it's not working as intended if it was an easy fix it would have been done allready. I will update if I get any more information.

1. MP ships should be able to hold more/better equipment
2. YT-1300 only has 2  missiles rather than 3
3. Repair Conduits while exiting deep space too
4. Add ability to see group waypoints
5. PvP is dead in space...it needs to be fixed
    - PvP no decay, PvP better competition (no 1 or 2 shots kills when equipped with level 10 equipment)
 
I can understand if a level 10 cannon shoots a level 1 ship (or wherever the Dev's think the line should be) ... but there should be a chance to defend if hit.

My top of the list at this time?
 
  1. FOB ships (YT, Nova, Decim) defence.
    Maybe add a second slot for armor front and rear and a second shield slot. Currently FOB ships are more for "wow value" then having a major role to play when taking 4 or 5 (your crew) pilots out of the game.
  2. Mission length.
    For some of the mission IMHO its just too long. I happen to have many pilots I can call on for help as I have helped a lot to master. But some of the 2 hour long missions make it hard to find (and offer) help in many cases. Maybe break up some of the longer ones into another system. That way you could take a break and not hit the new system for a while.
  3. EDIT TO ADD: Droid commands:
    WO3 (and some others) do not seem to increase energy drain. Only Engine displays "Energy Efficiency .3" when an overload is used. A) Fix to add display of full overloaded current status in 'V' and add energy drain where needed.
  4. EDIT TO ADD: Inverted flight controlls
    After using a using booster in a YT, Deci, Nova, B-Wing

My little stuff?

  1. /MissileLaunch
    I love to use it to say hi to friends, or to "wake-up" an opposing faction overt in kessel when I am looking for a good fight. But I think there should be a timmer on it, say 45 seconds. That way it can not be used as much to drop someones fram rate in PvP.

-Wanting the little picture of your friend who you are talking to in a /tell or in group chat to appear as it would for an NPC.  A moving picture would be cool too.  And also a toggle in the options menu to turn it off or on if it annoyes people.

In No Particular Order:

  • Relative Target Orientation Display
    ATM it rotates and does all kinds of funky stuff, which is completely useless other than IDing the ship type - which is also in plain text underneath.
  • Master Content
  • PvP zone (no NPC's)
  • MP Ship Balance
  • PvP Balance
  • Ground -> Space tie-ins (combination missions, ground loot for space, space for ground, quests)
  • Space-Specific Lootables (content - e.g. Posters, Carpets, et al)
  • Group Content -
    • Currently (other than, for most, the gated missions) there are no group based missions, quests, or adventures.
      Though probably intended as such, the RSS and ISS do not require a group.
    • There are no bonuses of any kind to grouping.
      Encouraging grouping will help both newer pilots gain skill & training, and build confidence, possibly even encourage more PvP.
    • Splittable Rewards for Groups
      At the time of posting, credits go to "most damage", as well as loot drops.
      A kind of drop that could be given to each member of a group having done at least the required 5% damage would be nice.
      (The creds divided by damage done perhaps, but only in a group scenario? I'm not sure what else, but any incentive to group up is welcome)
  • Trainer Chair (or ship)
    I would LOVE to be able to take a new pilot out in any ship, and have him able to see "what I'm doing".  It takes tremendous effort to communicate some concepts which can be demonstrated instantly.
    We have MP ships, so I'm sure the grouping issue is not the problem here.
    Please give us this.
  • Ship Count Increase (5 or 6)
  • Renaming Flight Computers
  • Alternate HUD fixes>
    using any but the default radar display does not show mission boxes.  I much prefer one of the others to the default, where I can see cap, shield, armor, booster, plus radar all in one place.  But, it shows no mission target boxes, and thus is useless.
  • More Ships!
    A Civilian line would be awesome, ships that can be flown by all 9 trees.

Oh I'm sure I have a ton more, but in that list you'll find both a few common ones and a few *new* ones to consider.

1. Fix the Weapon Overload 3 command. As so many other threads have pointed out, this command should not be boosting weapon damage while reducing the energy cost per shot. The overpowered aspects of it are probably one of the reasons why so few people are willing to engage in PvP.

2. Increase the lock-on range for missiles. There just isn't enough reason to use them right now, when their range is nearly identical to guns. Double or triple the missile range and make these the important tactical component of dogfighting that they should be.

my ideas
 
more uses for prestige points (buy your own space station, rare parts, etc)
 
when the GCW upgrade comes along, i want the battles to be in space, not just on the ground.  how about putting turrets all over the rebel and imperial space stations outside of deep space.  These stations could then be destroyed, and the faction that destroys it will have one of their stations be built in its place (construction would last a day).  on a similiar note, if the rebels control a sector, i want to see a mon calamari cruiser or a group of nebulon frigates patrolling the system (like the star destroyer in deep space).
 
Make it so MP ship turrets turn independtly of the ship.  right now, if the ship is yawing left and you try to the move the turret right, it barely moves.  military helicopters have this technology and it works really well.  so why not in star wars?

1.) Make ships manoeuver according to their size... ie. Capitol ships like the Corvette shouldn't be able to turn on a pin
2.) Tie your faction standings on the ground into your faction standings in space, ie. positive Hutt faction means that Hutt targets are friendly
3.) Allow for guild/groupchat to extend into space and back, there's a number of times where I've missed out on guild chat conversations because it doesn't seem to carry the contents of the guildchat from the ground into space, there appears to be seperate instinces for each

1.) Prestige Point Rewards, we have them, let us do something with them.

2.) More Armor for multiplayer ships

3.) PvP improvements, not many people play anymore due to the way PvP feels

4.) Some way to organize loot by type/level for sorting purposes for REing.

5.) Corvette needs to spawn regularly and/or have a timer countdown when you have a mission!

1. Make the multiplayer ships viable in PvP combat. Also, make sure that a MP ship with a full crew is as good if not better then a single/double player ship.

2. Give me some place to put my data disks that I loot in space so I can have easy access to them.

3. Change the level of ships in the Dathomir station duty missions to Tier 4/ Tier 5. I'm sorry but Tier 3/Tier 4 are just too easy for the area.

4. Fix Weapon Overload 3. As much as I love the fact that it is broken because it helps in PvE, it should be fixed due to the fact it is, of course, broken.

5. More Content. I want to see more ships, more droid programs, more loot, and more space areas. More More More! I of course want all this after most major bugs have been fixed, and I'd rather have the programs and loot first, then the ships, then the space areas. Assuming that is the easiest path for the Dev team to go.

1. MP ships - need to be heavily strengthened - primary secondary shields and armor, etc. Make them worth using. In the movies the Falcon was regularly seen kiting tie fighters for long stretches of time.
2. PvP - like the GCW revamp coming.. make the GCW in space meaningful. Control of space should affect the ground war, interplanetary shuttling, etc.
3. Space - make space zones larger. I want to see player controlled capital ships w/ crews of 10/15/20 players.
4. Grouping - Allow "wings" within groups - different color designation (brackets) for different wings.
5. Communication - Faction channels that all faction pilots can get on. Short cut commands/requests (Attack my target/attacker, form on me, etc). Without teamspeak or something, you don't have a chance.

I have a great one.... Allow us to use prestigue points for something...
for example; allow us privateer to buy rebel ships..; or allow us to buy a new line with them...... Something...anything..

1.  MP ships not viable in PvP.
2.  Weapon Overload 3.
3.  A full crew in MP ships is no where near as effective as those same people in single player ships.
4.  One shot PvP kill.
5.  What is prestige for?!
